Joanna Pereira graduated from Wilson College with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Microbiology and then completed her Master of Microbiology from St. Xavier’s College Autonomous, Mumbai, India. She started her research career by working in the field of antimicrobial resistance in India, where she dealt with multidrug-resistant and extensively-drug resistant pathogens. She then moved to Sydney to purse her Master of Biotechnology at Macquarie University. She completed her FAAB Master of Research in early 2023, where she developed a flow cytometry-based technique to enumerate viability of complex commercial multi-species probiotic products. Joanna is now a PhD student at FAAB, where her research lies in probiotics and the human gut microbiome.
