Dr Katherine Stockham
National Measurement Institute
Katherine Stockham is the National Science and Business Development Manager for the Analytical Services Branch of the National Measurement Institute, Australia (NMIA). She holds a PhD in Analytical Chemistry for her research into antioxidant synergies in food systems and their potential mechanisms, and has been involved in a wide range of other NMIA collaborative research programs including studies on bioactives, plasticisers, food borne viruses, vitamins and nutrients, environmental contaminants and agrichemical residues. Katherine has been based at the NMIA for the past 15 years, and during this time has supervised many student research programs and work placements, presented research at international conferences and published a number of papers. She collaborated with Victoria University to develop industry-ready undergraduate course content for STEM students covering topics including method validation, measurement uncertainty, and pharmaceutical regulatory practices. She worked closely on the experimental design and set up for the Victorian Space Science Education Centre, focusing on engaging VCE students in STEM and creating industry-based exhibits. In her current role, Katherine and her team are heavily involved in stakeholder development and engagement, seeking to align NMIA activities with the needs of the Australian Government, industry, academia and the public. These activities centre around filling measurement gaps, supporting industry and trade, showing scientific leadership, and fostering the future generation of STEM leaders in Australia.
