Student Retreat Builds Skills, Sparks Collaboration, and Strengthens Community
The annual FAAB Industrial Transformation Training Centre Retreat, held from 2–4 April 2025 at the Australian National University in Canberra, brought together our vibrant cohort of students and researchers for three days of professional development, networking, and collaboration. With a full schedule of insightful presentations, team-building activities, and career-focused workshops, the retreat was a resounding success.
Participants appreciated the chance to engage in meaningful conversations with peers, mentors, and leaders in the science and research community—including sessions with Science & Technology Australia CEO Ryan Winn, ANU Research School of Chemistry Manager Dr Laura Dan, ANU researcher Matthew Spence and Australian Academy of Sciences Policy Analyst Ben Swinton-Bland. Highlights also included practical resume and interview skill sessions, and inspiring career pathway discussions.
Strong professional relationships and networks are key to successful collaboration within and outside the centre. Many attendees highlighted the value of the retreat in supporting connection and providing an opportunity to build a strong, collaborative research community within FAAB and beyond.
